These weeks just keep flying by! I felt pretty lonely this week, everyone is gone away somewhere warm while I sit here in the -50C freezing my bum off!

Week 17

Jan 13, 2012

Happy Friday the 13th!
Well, another week has come and gone! I'm trying to figure out the schedule as to when to post these.. I was going to write them as a review, but then realized that the fruit I was posting was for the past week. Oops! So now I'm posting for the beginning of each week (which starts on a friday for me!).

This past week was hectic, with Dan being gone I just had lots going on. I was able to sleep well throughout the night though which is a huge plus! On Tuesday I ended up making an emergency appointment with the doctor in town for bad cramps/backache I was having. Turns out I have a bladder infection and was prescribed antibiotics. She checked on little bean just to make sure he was doing ok.. found the heartbeat and its still going strong. We have our next prenatal appointment on the 18th and will probably get the date of our Ultrasound then. Really looking forward to that! My in-laws are off to Mexico for two months on Satuday, really gonna miss them and looking forward to sending them weekly updates as well!

Well time for our weekly fruit! Today we are an Onion! At a whopping 5.1 inches and 5.9oz. Interesting fact is from now on baby is the same size as my uterus! Meaning. I should be able to feel him move about!

17 weeks

What I weigh: 144.2lbs (up a total of 6.2lbs)
What I'm eating: Fruit Loops and pizza! Not together of course..
How I'm Feeling: I didn't throw up once this week! However I do have a nasty UTI and bad cramps/back ache to go with it. Other than that I'm feeling pretty good this week!

A Stressful Day

Jan 9, 2012

We had a great weekend this past weekend. We spent Friday night with friends, and the weekend with my family on the farm. We got back in decent time Sunday so Daniel could pack up and leave for a busy week at meetings in Saskatoon. I thought I would take total advantage of being home alone and get some cleaning and lots of organizing done, but after today I don't think I will be doing any of that.

I made an emergency appointment with an intern at the doctor's clinic. My regular N.P. wasn't in but I need to see someone. I was having bad cramps and my back has been super sore the past couple days. My N.P. kept telling me if your having cramps there isn't anything we can do to save baby, etc.. I wasn't really worried about it at the start, and I just kept assuming that what I was having was the round ligament pain I keep hearing about. So she made me do the usual urine sample, then hop up on the bed to find the heartbeat. It took her almost 15 minutes to find the heartbeat, and in the mean time I'm close to panic! She eventually found it and promised me it was healthy and strong! Turns out I just have the beginnings of a lovely bladder infection, and was prescribed some weak antibiotics. She mentioned she can't give me anything stronger because I'm pregnant, and should drink lots of fluids to help flush out the infection, and should also take it easy and hopefully my back pain will heal itself. Well, since I'm home alone I friend up some fresh fish in a flour coating and bought a salad from the grocery store, and I also managed to make some of the most delicious banana bread I have ever had!

Reese's Peanut Butter Banana Bread
Makes 1 loaf

3 very ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup oil
1 egg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
8 oz bag of Reese's Mini Cups

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease your loaf pan with butter.

In a medium bowl, whisk together your flour, baking powder and salt, set aside.

In a large bowl stir together your banana, peanut butter, oil, egg and sugars. Pour your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients and stir until just combined. It will be lumpy. Fold in your Reese's mini cups and spread batter into prepared pan.

Bake for 1 hour, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Serve with milk!

Week 15

Jan 1, 2012

This past week has definitely had some ups and downs. We spent New Years at a wedding, and it was so stormy and snowy out. I managed to get some cleaning done today.. actually the whole main floor of our house and started working on the baby room (Talk about nesting)! Work has been crazy busy these past two weeks with my boss gone on holidays. I've been working my ever growing bum off! I still have morning sickness every morning, and feel sick until about 9:30 and I'm then able to eat breakfast. A new pregnancy symptom hit this week, feeling light headed while I get ready in the morning and then on top of it all my back has been crazy sore lately. Also, I'm adding nose bleeds in too, but I think it might just be dry air. I am pretty sure I've been feeling bean move around this week, like tiny little muscle twitches every now and then.

I've been getting these e-mails weekly about how big our baby is, and it compares it to a fruit! I know, cute right! This week we are a...

Naval Orange!

And I decided now that I have an appetite back, I'm going to post a recipe that includes the fruit! My post for today is a super yummy bread that caused me to gain 2 lbs over the last week! Well, I'm not entirely sure it was the bread, but I'm going to blame it on that anyway.. grow away little bean!

P.S. - this recipe is using my favorite Christmas present ever! My new bread machine!

Cranberry Orange Bread (2lb Loaf)
1 cup water
1/3 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
1/3 cup skim milk powder
1/3 cup orange marmalade
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tbsp butter (room temp)
3 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 3/4 tsp instant yeast
3/4 cup dried cranberries

Layer in your bread maker the way your manual tells you. Mine says to put all liquids in first, followed by all solids and I added in my cranberries last. Select sweet bread cycle and let it go!
