Turkey Quinoa Meatloaf

Apr 10, 2013

Quinoa.. its intimidating. I mean come on.. its new, its bland, hard to cook, and nobody really knows what to do with it. Yet it is one of the healthiest, protein packed foods out there!

I came across this recipe the other day, and thought, hey why not.. I have this bag of quinoa in my pantry I have been trying to figure out what to do with it. I bought it for Maddox, but couldn't figure out how to cook it for him to eat. Well folks.. this is it..

Ingredients (5 Servings)
  • 1/4 cup quinoa
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 large garlic clover, minced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (or ketchup)
  • 1 tbsp hot pepper sauce
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp water
Preheat oven to 350F.

In a small pot, bring quinoa and water to a boil over high heat. Continue to boil, covered, over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Set aside to cool.

Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onion and cook until softened and translucent. Add the garlic and cook for another minute, remove from heat.

Stir the turkey, cooked quinoa, onions, tomato paste, hot sauce, 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce, egg, salt and pepper in a large bowl until combined. The mixture will be very moist. Shape into a loaf on a foil lined baking sheet (or press into a small loaf pan as I did).

Combine the brown sugar, worcestershire sauce and water in a small bowl and rub over the loaf.

Bake, for 50 minutes, or until no longer pink in the center. The internal temperature should be at least 160F.

Let the meatloaf cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

  1. This sounds like a great meatloaf recipe! I always use oatmeal in my meatloaf, but I never thought of using quinoa...I will have to try this the next time I make meatloaf:)
